We feel very fortunate to have as our foundation stock the Harbourlights lines. And with the acquisition of three additional Harbourlights dogs when that kennel was dissolved in 1999 and the recent addition of a female pup from Kare Kennels who is “pure Harbourlights” even though she carries the Kare Kennel name, we are working towards continuing to evolve the breeding lines that the Nickersons developed over the years, with as little “outcrossing” as possible.

Our main breeding program objective is to produce healthy Tollers with excellent temperament, good conformation and the retrieving instincts for which the breed is known. All our breeding stock have had their hips checked at about 2 years of age (OFA or OVC or PennHip) and their eyes are checked annually by a CERF certified ophthalmologist. Our puppies are whelped and raised in our home and are well socialized with other dogs, adults and children. Since we are retired, we have the time to spend with the pups right from birth until they leave for their new homes at around 9 weeks of age.

We have a questionnaire which we ask all prospective puppy buyers to complete and return to us together with pictures of their home, yard, children, grandchildren, pets (past and present), etc. We ask for the pictures so that we can get a feeling for where our pups might be going. Once a completed questionnaire and pictures are returned to us, we place prospective buyers on our waiting list. We ask that people keep in touch and if they get a pup from another breeder that they let us know in order that we may keep our waiting list up to date.

Sandy is a member of the CKC, the NSDTR Club of Canada, the NSDTR-US Club, and the Eastern Flyway Retriever Club. In addition to raising Tollers, Sandy is an avid quilter and rug hooker, an active gardener and also a photography buff. Examples of her quilting and rug hooking are shown in the Fun Photo Gallery. Retirement sure is a busy time of life in this household.
